How Long, O Lord? Why?
By Pastor Aggrey Soyekwo
Psalms 6.2-4 “Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am faint; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in anguish. How long, O LORD, how long?
Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.” – NIV
A prayer of David. His enemies troubled his heart. He had wept and groaned until his eyes grew weak. But the God to Whom he cried seemed to delay to answer. He was fainting in anticipation for delayed answers. He now asks God for how long this would go on. His body was giving way, almost to death. Things appeared bleak and uncertain.
Many a time we face similar scenarios. The situations of life taunt us. Things are not working out as they ought to. Sometimes it is one challenge after another in continuous succession. We wonder what’s wrong, pray to God and seek His intervention, and He seems quiet. Those who don’t wish us well celebrate as we struggle with no earthly solution coming our way. And the inevitable question comes through; Lord why and for how long will you allow this in my life, family, business, career… ? How long more O Lord?
It’s at such tough times that our minds become very susceptible to satanic manipulations of doubt in the love, faithfulness, goodness and care of God. When God seems not to answer, He hasn’t denied us. He means well for us even in delays. In His omniscience, He knows why and when the best time to respond to us is. One assurance we have from His unfailing word is that He answers every prayer we make in accordance with His word. Hang in there dear child of God, He will answer you in the best way and time known to Him. It’ll be well.
Psalm 27:13-14 “[I had fainted], unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” KJV
Shalom children of God.
