Isaiah 14:27 "For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?" - NIV
This was a prophecy against Assyria. In it God describes Himself, the LORD Almighty Who purposes and no human force or ability can change it. When He has determined to do a thing and stretches out His hand to act, no other power known in the universe can turn it back or stop Him. After all, whatever would oppose Him is part of His creation over which He rules.
These are statements of absolute authority, complete control and supremacy that can only be attributed to God. At that time, Assyria was one of the world powers which assumed alot of authority. Several other kingdoms and powers have since risen in the world scene. If God is that powerful and can do whatever He wishes, why does He allow evil to thrive, and the wicked appear to triumph over the righteous? He acts. In all His actions, God cannot go outside His plans and purposes, will, timing and character.
God is in control of the affairs of this world. No one can advice or push Him on what to do. Some arrogantly and ignorantly assume they can get God do whatever they wish. We can only align ourselves and submit to His Sovereign rule and do His will. At His time, He will act and execute His will and purpose for all creation. He alone is God, besides and above Him is no other. Listen to the powerful Nebuchadnezzar testify about Him;
"All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: "What have you done?"… Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble." Daniel 4:35,37
