Think About Such Things…

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable– if anything is excellent or praiseworthy– think about such things.” – NIV

Life throws many things our way. We are bombarded with all sorts of information, from all sorts of people, with all sorts of world views, through all sorts of ways. The electronic media now chants out huge volumes of information in any field at only a tap on a phone or computer. This information gets to us through what see/watch, hear, touch or experience in some way. What we recieve is a combination of truth, lies and deception. That’s why it is important to discern and sieve it. Whatever we recieve informs our thinking, comes out through our speech, actions, and affects our outlook of life, and the decisions we make. It eventually affects everything we do our entire lives. We are products of what we feed on.

Paul’s advice to the Philippians is good for us as well. If our lives are to be peaceful and meaningful, we must watch what we allow into our minds, and how we think. We should spend our energy and time meditating on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy, positive, progressive, etc. Give no room to negative things contrary to these things because they only wear you out, stir hatred, bitterness, rejection, depression, steals your joy and peace, and eventually your whole life will be messed up and wasted! There is always something good out of even the worst of life situations.

Like it or not, our external lives is a reflection of what is going on internally. How we talk, decide and act, our facial appearances, shows what we are thinking about. Reject bad thoughts about yourself or others. Instead, give plenty of room to good thoughts. Let God’s word guide our meditations in every aspect of life. And life will be better.

Joshua 1.8 “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
